When a single parent of 3 boys ages 13, 9, & 6 was evicted and had no place to go, a nieghbor offered to allow her kids to stay at her house during the week and she would take them to and from school so they wouldnt have to change schools. The parent agreed and picked the kids up each week end. Suddenly, the parent received a phone call from a ventura county social worker that a hearing for guardiaship was to take place that morning. By the time the parent made it to the courthouse, it was too late. The nieghbor said she did not know where the parent was and had no way to contact her. She further made unfounded and negative statements about the parent, who is not allowed to see her kids and must have supervised visits, Meanwhile all the support payments and foodstamps and medi-Cal was taken from the mother and given to the new guardian, who has moved from a 1 bedroom mobile home to a 4 bedroom house without notifying the court. With some help the parent has filed a petition to end the guardianship. Isnt she entiyled to free legal representation? How, where do we get it?
