My mom died and me and my two younger siblings inherited her house. She didn’t have a will so since I was the oldest (they were underage) I went through probate and the house is in all three of our names but I have the letter of administration. I am a single mom of two kids and me and my kids live in the house and my two siblings live elsewhere. My question is, could they take me to court and make me sell the house? I’m really worried because I don’t have anywhere else to go.
When I took over the house, code enforcement was threatening to condemn if work wasn’t done to the house. I paid 6,500 for a new roof and other maintenance to get the house up to code and I pay all the property tax on the house and it was 2 yrs behind when I took over the house and I got the taxes caught up as well.
One of my siblings shows little interest in the house but agrees that if I sell he would be entitled to his part but my sister is the one who has mentioned selling the house in the past and we haven’t been on speaking terms (unrelated to the house) so that’s what scares me about it with her but it would take 10,000 to pay her part off and I don’t have that much money and didn’t know if I could draw a contract with me making payments to her over a period of time, say like 200 a month X 4yrs.
